Somebody once told me that Formula 1 is the absolute pinnacle of Motorsport. I think what they meant to say is that you have to be at the highest Pinnacle of of your own proffession to afford the Pitt & Paddock passes that get you close enough to the cars and drivers to fully understand what's going on.
Unfortunately, unlike the beloved Tour De France where one can stand roadside and literally slap butts of competitors as they pedal by, Formula1 has much higher barriers to entry (Excuse the Pun!).
My future Blogs (is that what you call them??) will endeavor to bring you an outsiders (sometimes totally wrong) opinion of the inner workings of formula 1.....
Am I qualified for the job? Probably not... As an Australian however, I will say that I go over and above the call of duty during the formula 1 season... I don't have the cushy luxury of watching the Grand Prix on a lazy Sunday afternoon whilst I snack on my Chip Butty.....No No.....I watch it whilst eating my Supper's Supper when all the normal people have gone to bed preparing themselves for the working week ahead.
If I'm lucky, and "Flight of the Conchords" and "Rove Live" aren't running grossly overtime I'll start watching the GP at about 11:30PM on a Sunday Night.
Worst case however, such as the US Grand Prix, I'll be watching it around 3AM Monday morning!
I'd like to see how many Britt's would watch the GP if it were on that late... Actually I know how many - zippo... that's why Bernie Ecclestone recently made the Melbourne Formula 1 GP a five PM start..... But that's a whole other story...
In addition, I'm attempting to keep these blogs objective, unlike Martin and James in the ITV Commentary box (OH LEWIS... LEWIS!!! I LOVE YOU LEWIS!!!! GET HIM UP HERE!!! OH LEWIS!)
I will say that up until the Silverstone Formula 1 GP I might have been slightly biased towards Mark Webber, but since his spin on the opening lap he has to prove to me that he wants to win; not just "try really hard to win"... But that's yet another separate story....
So stay tuned... I'm going to try and do this whilst waiting for the GP's on a Sunday night.... Feel free to send me any comments.. as long as they are constructive and stroke my ego in the right direction...
Cheers
